Turton Moorland Team Ministry

Six Churches, Four Parishes, One Vision

Belmont, Bradshaw, Turton and Walmsley

Our Mission & Vision

Our vision and mission is to help connect people to faith

Who are we?

We are a group of four parishes, Belmont, Bradshaw, Turton and Walmsley to the north and north-east of Bolton.

We stretch from what are suburbs of Bolton through various villages and hamlets and up into the West Pennine Moors.

As Christian communities we want to share the good news of God; we want to contribute to the well-being of our home areas; we know we are blessed and we want to share that blessing with others, not least those less fortunate than ourselves.

Our four parishes have six church buildings, and we value them as places of worship and places for the community.

Church for a Different World Award 2020

Highly Commended

The Turton Moorland Team have been highly commended by the diocese for our response to the Covid crisis, for the way we have – together – responded, both with new ideas, like the online service each week, with the provision of online resources – Worship-at-Home and Children’s resources each week, daily prayers both as a text and on Twitter and Facebook, and the posting of prayer resources and reflections to those who do not have internet, or use the internet and the phone calls that have been made by so many to others.

We are delighted that we have won this accolade (along with a number of other parishes). We have tried to make it a Team response, suitable and appropriate in each parish, and different people have contributed in different ways. A copy of our certificate is in each church, and also adjacent…

WORSHIP, Mission & Vision

What do we do?

Team Council
We have a Team Council which is elected from the parishes and we try and do together those things we can do better together, and we want to support those things which are best done locally.

Shared Events and projects
We want to encourage joint events and to share good practice and good ideas. The Team is not there to take over the parishes but to help us support each other and do things better than we might have done without the help from others.

Team Administrator
We have a wonderful Team Administrator who works part-time and helps coordinate baptisms and weddings across the parishes, also the service rotas and whatever else can help us work better together.
Chris Sutcliffe can be contacted on 07458 332 893 and her usual working hours are Thursday and Fridays 12.00 -3.00pm

Turton Youth Church
We meet on the second Saturday of each month in the evening. We are a church for young people from Year 6 and up; we pray together, eat together, do things together.

Who’s Who?

Team Rector – Revd Canon Peter Reiss
I have been here since September 2019. Before that, I worked for the Diocese of Manchester for 15 years in various ministry and training roles, and before that, I was a vicar in Nottingham.

These are parishes with much history, a real desire to be relevant and a continuing part of the local communities for today, and to pass on the good news of God to the next generations.

I am more involved with the parish of St Anne’s Turton, and I am delighted to have such good colleagues across the Team.

Licensed Team Clergy

Revd Carol Hayden – particular responsibility for the Parish of Walmsley, Christ Church Walmsley and St Andrew’s Bromley Cross

Revd Chris Jamieson – particular responsibility for St Peter, Belmont

Revd Marcus Bulcock – particular responsibility at St Anne’s Turton, including the congregation at St James’ Edgworth

Revd Hannah Lane – Assistant Curate in the Team

Chair of Team Council – Allan Hopkins

Team Administrator – Chris Sutcliffe 07458 332893
